  • Access materials for Ear Training & Dictation

Step 2

  • Return hard copies or upload an image of your completed analysis & ear training/dictation in the Midterm Exam section of your Jimdo

Step 3

  • Reflect on the following

A.  How confident are you in the predicted outcome of the written analysis?  20%, 40%, 60%, 80% or 100%. 100%

B.  How confident are you in the predicted outcome of the ear training?  20%, 40%, 60%, 80% or 100%. 90%

C.  How confident are you in the predicted outcome of the dictation?  20%, 40%, 60%, 80% or 100%. 100%

D.  On a scale from 1-10, about how much effort/time did you put into preparing for this exam? 10 being the most time, I say I put in a big ol' 9.

E.  What part(s) did you find most challenging?  Easiest? I was challenged by the ear training cadence exercises. I enjoyed the written analysis.

Midterm Reflection

Step 1

  • Review the Benchmark Goals you set for yourself in Getting Started, what is it that you hope to know and/or be able to do at the conclusion of the course? Increased musical fluency is the dream!

A. What were your intended results?

My goal was: "I hope that I can learn more about what makes music music, and I would like to use this ability to construct and compose some of my own pieces." I think I'm coming closer to that goal. I'm getting into the nitty-gritty right now, but I know that I'll come out with a clearer understanding of the really gunky stuff in music.

B.  What were your actual results?

My results... well, I'm understanding more things about music. I haven't yet come to compose a nice-sounding piece, but I'm learning about a lot of good already-composed ones.

C.  What caused your results? Practicing pieces and listening to YouTube is expanding my repetoire and my music comprehension.

D.  What will you do the same next time? I'd like to stay a bit more in the stuff that I don't understand so I can actually understand it. My hopes are to not be confused when looking at a piece. I want to go "AHA!"

E.  What will you do differently? I will spend more time outside of class working on my units and compositions.

Step 2

  • Review your Getting Started Self Regulation Inventory & Work Habits

A.  Comment on the outcome of these self assessments as it relates to the quality of your work flow thus far. I think that I have been okay at regulating myself and getting to work without being prompted.

B.   What has been your greatest strength? I take great pride in my note-taking.

C.   How can you compensate for weaknesses? I tend to go further into the course, so if I have something that I'm not totally familiar with, I have that extra bit of time to digest it.

D.   In what ways might you modify your approach to the class during the second part of the semester? I can get more done outside of school and button up my work with the C block class :) not necessary, but I'd like it.

Step 3

  • Review your Music Literacy Benchmark Assessment located in Unit 1

A.  Comment on your achievements thus far (1, 3, 5) relating to your literacy confidence for each concept. If not by a point, I have at least gone up two for each of the music literacy key concepts.

B.  Are you making good progress toward your goal?

C.  Describe the resources/tools that are most helpful to your understanding of this subject. I really enjoy using the EMT On The Web and my music theory classes (and tenuto) to gain a furthered understanding of the concepts outside of class.

D.  What might interfere with your progress and how can you prevent this interference? Anna, probably. I can just take her out permanently. Or I could prepare for some time being taken and do some work outside of class.

Step 4

  • Complete the Work Habits Self Assessment either in Notability or paper version to reflect your current areas of strengths and areas of needed improvement for the second half of the semester. All done :)

Step 5

  • Briefly review the assignments you have submitted for Units 1-5

A.  Comment on the quality of work reflected in your ePortfolio relating to areas of strengths as well as areas of needed improvement. I think that I have pretty solid units. Some humor here and there, so everything is pretty nice :)

B.  Will you continue to sculpt the work reflected in your ePortfolio as you did for the first half of the course or do you plan on making changes for the second part of the semester? I would be delighted to work as hard as I have for the rest of the semester.

Step 6

  • Please help us sculpt the next phase of the course by providing feedback, suggestions, etc. related to Unit Content, Alfred, Wix, On-Campus, ePortfolio, Work Flow, etc. I think Jimdo can be a bit finicky, but what's new? I'm enjoying myself just fine; if something ain't broke, don't fix it.
