Content & Midterm Reflection

Step 1

  • Where is Early Music(Antiquity, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque) 'Alive and Well'? Provide Examples.

Where isn’t it?? You can see it in many chamber choirs, including the prestigious one at Burr and Burton Academy. Others include the Freebern family ensemble, as well as colleges like Amherst, Alverno, and Eastman School of Music, that provide “Early Music” themed concerts and performances.

Step 2

  • Review the Benchmark Goals you set for yourself in Unit 1, what is it that you hope to know and/or be able to do at the conclusion of the course?

A. What were your intended results? I would like to stay organized, work well with others so we can help each other when we get stuck, and to keep my knowledge outside of school so I can use it elsewhere in applicable situations.

B.  What were your actual results? I stayed rather organized; I only stumbled at due dates & submissions.

C.  What caused your results? I have that procrastination bit that sees a due date far off in the distance and doesn’t do a significant amount of work a bit before that distance comes and smacks me in the face.

D.  What will you do the same next time? Keep the quality of my work, and maintaining a healthy working environment.

E.  What will you do differently? Use more time outside of class to work on my assessments and unit presentations.

Step 3

  • Review your Getting Started  Self Regulation Inventory & Work Habits

A.  Comment on the outcome of these self assessments as it relates to the quality of your work flow thus far. I think the self-assessment was something healthy to revisit. My work flow isn’t going as smoothly as I had originally anticipated (c’est la vie), and I look forward to improving myself and work habits with the new year.

B.   What has been your greatest strength? I have to admit... my google slides are my favorite part of the course; they get the most attention.

C.   How can you compensate for weaknesses? By being able and willing to improve. Having the mindset for setting yourself up for strength and success is the first step.

D.   In what ways might you modify your approach to the class during the second part of the semester? I should like to get to things on time, rather than procrastinate more than I have to.

Step 4

  • Complete the Work Habits Self Assessment either in Notability or paper version to reflect your current areas of strengths and areas of needed improvement for the second half of the semester

 Here we go :)

Step 5

  • Briefly review the assignments you have submitted for Units 1-5

A.  Comment on the quality of work reflected in your ePortfolio relating to areas of strengths as well as areas of needed improvement. I think that my Jimdo is strong, and I can improve on adding the small details here and there to provide a more complete experience.

B.  Will you continue to sculpt the work reflected in your ePortfolio as you did for the first half of the course or do you plan on making changes for the second part of the semester? I'm aiming to take more time on my Jimdo and maintain a neat and fun place to learn- no big change necessary, I don't think.

Step 6

  • Please help us sculpt the next phase of the course by providing feedback, suggestions, etc. related to Unit Content, Listen, Launchpad, Wix, On-Campus, ePortfolio, Work Flow, etc.

I feel like Jimdo can be a bit difficult to use at times... when it gets finicky, it really gets weird. Other than that, I think everything's going smoothly :)

Program Review

Step 1

Research a recent concert program given by a University or College of your choice to answer the following

  • Where and when did this performance take place? The concert happened on Saturday, October 20th at 5:30 p.m., at the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall.

  • What types of performing forces were featured on this program? (choir, band, orchestra, jazz, etc.) There was a concentration on vocal performances. There was a small orchestra that had their own classical performance, and an accompanying pianist for certain songs.

  • Provide a description of the songs presented including title, composer, genre, style, etc. There was Mendelssohn’s Heilig, Charles Ive’s Circus Band, Hamisha Asar arranged by Nick Page, plus the combined choirs that performed Schubert’s Mass in G (with an instrumental ensemble), and a more modern David Dickau’s If Music Be the Food of Love. Conductors were Tony Thornton, who was in charge of the more organized chamber choirs; and Stephen A. Paparo, who conducted the UMass Chorale.
